At The School of Fiber Arts at Conversational Threads, our friendly and experienced Instructors offer a wide range of Classes to students of every skill level and interest.  As a shop, we hold frequent Special Events and Celebrations.

General Crochet Sessions

Mondays, 6:30 to 8:30PM

These General Crochet Sessions are for Advanced Beginners (you know how to chain, single and double

crochet) and Intermediate Beginners (you are proficient in all basic stitches and increases and

decreases, can follow most pattern instructions and have completed several projects using these skills).

This amazingly fun to knit sweater

comes in a variety of sizes,

6 months to adult 4XL! 

It's knit from the top down,

with many things to learn along

the way.  You'll add a lot of skills

to your knitting toolbox each

week of class.  We recommend

one of the smaller sizes, if you hope

to finish the sweater in class.

This class is not recommended for a

brand-new knitter.

 

 

Fair Isle knitting is in!  In this class

learn to do Fair Isle knitting the best

way - Two-Handed! 

Let Linda teach you the techniques

involved while making this

Norwegian Star Hat as you learn.

 

 

Materials:  Worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors; US size 7

16-inch circular needle OR two US

size 7 circular needles (any length)

OR one set US size 7 DPN's.

Please print it out or have it downloaded before class.  

 

IMPORTANT: HOMEWORK

Cast on 96 stitches in the main color (not 112 stitches as the pattern states) and to 3.5 inches of 1x1 ribbing.

Then knit 5 rows.  Be ready to start the chart at class time.

Double Knitting

Double Knitting is fun, let Cheri

show you how to do it!  Double knit

fabric is reversible; you are literally knitting both sides of your project

at the same time, creating a very soft, squishy and warm fabric.  In this class

you'll create a cute hat

while learning the

basic technique, as well as tips and

tricks to make double knitting fun!

 

Materials:  2 hanks of sport

weight yarn in contrasting colors;

US size 6 - 16" circular needles, or size required to achieve gauge;

US size 6 DPN's (or 40-inch circular

needle for magic loop), or size

required to achieve gauge;

There is a small amount of homework

before the class:

3 swatches (leave on holder or

spare needle when done with each -

cast on 20 or 30 stitches for each

swatch).

Swatch 1 - Garter stitch

Swatch 2 - Stockinette stitch 

Swatch 3 - Cast on 30 stitches,

work as follows:

RS - knit 10, purl 2, knit 6,

purl 2, knit 10

WS - purl 10, knit 2, purl 6,

knit 2, purl 10

Work each swatch for a few inches

and place on holder, separate needle

or lifeline.

Crochet Granny Squares

Granny Squares are all the rage! 

Join Deb as she teaches you the

steps to creating the perfect

granny square.  You will be able

to turn these granny squares

into a blanket, shawl, market bag,

vest or even a cardigan! 

 

In the three week sessions you'll learn:

The basic granny stitch (chain

and double crochet)

How to crochet in the round (including some tricks for having less tails

to weave in and, if time permits,

how to begin a granny square

with the Magic Ring)

How to connect squares to create

blankets, accessories, and more 

How to experiment with color

combinations for appealing results

 

Required Experience:  Basic crochet

skills of chaining, single crochet,

double crochet and slip stitch are

required to attend this workshop.

 

Materials:  Worsted weight yarn in 2 or more contrasting colors (Cascade 220 Superwash Merino is recommended)

Sizes H/5mm crochet hook;

Yarn needle; Scissors

 

Materials are separate from the

cost of the class.  You are welcome

to bring hooks and notions from

home if you already have them.

I Love Entrelac!

Let's learn how to do Entrelac, a

knitted fabric that looks woven. 

 

You'll learn the technique for

knitting Entrelac flat, how

to knit backwards, and get a lot of

practice picking up stitches,  You will

learn on a swatch, and we will

discuss pattern options during the

last class.

 

Materials:  1 hank Malabrigo Rios. or similar worsted weight yarn;

US size 7 - 24" circular needles

(depending on how you knit).

My First Sweater Class with Linda

 

Cost is $35 for 3 one-on-one one-hour sessions, payable in cash or by check to Linda Miller at the beginning of your first session.

 

Linda is introducing a new class for those of you who would like to add knitting a sweater to your skill set.

 

Flax by Tin Can Knits is the perfect sweater for anyone who would like to attempt knitting their first sweater.  Available for free on Ravelry.com in 19 sizes from 0-6 months to 6XL, Flax is knit in an Aran or worsted weight yarn for a quick project.  Or choose Flax Light which is done in fingering weight.  So many customization options are available for this sweater, including directions for a cropped or a regular length.
