Classes & Special Events

At The School of Fiber Arts at Conversational Threads, our friendly and experienced Instructors offer a wide range of Classes to students of every skill level and interest.  As a shop, we hold frequent Special Events and Celebrations.  To register for a Class or a Special Event, call the shop or email us, or better yet, stop by in person!  Class fees are payable in cash or by check made out to the Instructor of your class.  Materials are not included unless specified otherwise.

Join Deb for her Thursday evening class or her Saturday morning class where she will help you with any aspect of the art of crochet, from learning the very basic stitches to help with your ongoing project to teaching you a new technique for your crochet knowledge base.  All levels of crocheters are welcome, and these are ongoing classes which students can join at any time. Linda is offering 4 sessions of General Knitting per week for your convenience. General Knitting sessions are for you to get help with your current work-in-progress, to learn a new technique, or to help you begin on your knitting journey by learning to knit. Linda can ease your way with whatever your knitting issue may be.

Beginner's Knitting and Knitter's Help Class with Jean RETURNS WHEN WE REOPEN

Thursday Afternoons from 3:00PM to 5:00PM | Cost $10.00

Beginner's Knitting is for the Absolute Beginning New Knitter or for Start Again Knitters, for those wanting to learn to knit or for those who have knitted long ago but have forgotten most of what they knew. After you have learned the basics, let Jean guide you as you move beyond into more complex projects.

The Knitter’s Help class is held at the same time as the Beginner’s Knitting wherein Jean will give you a hand to learn a new technique or help you over a hurdle in your current knitting project.

Students can attend as many sessions per week as desired, but they must register for each session they wish to attend in order to maintain a comfortable number of students per session so that everyone is able to get sufficient attention for their needs.  

Skills which can be learned as a Beginner Knitter will be the knit stitch, the purl stitch, casting on, binding off, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round and more.

Super Simple Scarf - A Beginning Weaving Class with Katie

Three Saturdays POSTPONED UNTIL WE REOPEN | Cost $75

Truly new to weaving? Need a relaxing project that can be meditative? This is a fantastic class for true beginners who want to learn a new craft. This plain weave scarf is the simplest form of weaving and is very meditative on the Schacht Cricket Loom. You will learn how to warp your loom for a scarf, plain weave, and changing threads or colors. This is also a great opportunity to use some scrap or left over yarn.

Having a rigid heddle loom of your own is recommended. You can purchase one at the store! You may also borrow a loom, but it cannot be removed from the store. At the end of class you will have the opportunity to purchase the loom you are working on.

Limited to 4 attendees

Requirements for single color scarf
220 yards of strong worsted weight wool for warp (Cascade or Universal recommended)
220 yards of worsted weight wool for weft
Scissors and tapestry needle
Requirements for scrap yarn scarf
220 yards of strong worsted weight wool for warp (Cascade or Universal recommended)
Approximately 220 yards of worsted weight wool or more for thinner wools of scrap
Scissors and tapestry needle

Payment: $75 cash or check made payable to Katie Pfenninger due on the first day of class. Additional finishing class at extra cost.


It's Back - Our Annual Fashion Show! - POSTPONED, NEW DATE WILL BE DETERMINED

Cost $15.00

Join us for an evening of fiber inspiration at our Fifth Annual Conversational Threads Fashion Show on Sunday, March 29th, from 6-8 PM. This is our most popular event of the year, and it’s back again!

Our models will be highlighting garments and accessories on the stairs of our stage, with commentary on each garment as it is presented, with the models cruising through the shop afterwards for a closer look at the garments.

Seating is strictly limited to 40, so sign up now. The cost is $15.00, which includes a seat at the show and a $10.00 gift certificate to the shop. $5.00 from each ticket sold will be donated to Kiva, which is a charity that Conversational Threads supports. Cash or check only, seats reserved only after payment. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds due to the nature of the donation, but we can try to help you find a replacement.

Refreshments will be served (and past attendees know they are awesome).

Learn to Do Two-Handed Fair Isle Knitting with Linda - POSTPONED

Cost $35.00

Fair Isle sweaters are all the rage right now.  In this class learn to do Fair Isle the best way - Two-Handed!  Let Linda teach you the techniques involved while making this Norwegian Star Hat as you learn.

Materials:  Two high contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn, US size 7 16" circular OR two US size 7 circulars OR US size 7 DPN's.  The Norwegian Star Hat by Stephanie Taylor is available for free on Ravelry.

Homework:  Cast on 96 stitches in the main color (not the 112 as the pattern states).  Do 3.5 inches of 1x1 ribbing.  Knit 5 rows.  Be ready to start the chart at classtime.

Class is limited to 10 students.
